Digital Transformation for a Distributed Workforce
How Elite Training successfully upskilled 600+ Care Inspectorate employees across Scotland in Microsoft Office 365 and Windows 10.
Modernising Tools for a Critical Public Body
The Care Inspectorate is the independent scrutiny and improvement body for care services across Scotland. With headquarters in Dundee and offices distributed nationwide, their workforce plays a vital role in protecting adults and children.
To improve operational efficiency and collaboration, the organisation decided to migrate to Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 365. However, shifting to cloud-based tools like SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams represented a significant change in working practices for their 600+ employees.
They needed a training partner who could deliver consistent, high-quality instruction across multiple locations, ensuring staff were not just "aware" of the new tools, but competent and confident in using them immediately.
A Tailored, Instructor-Led Rollout
In January 2019, Elite Training was awarded the contract. We recognized that a generic "how-to" course wouldn't suffice. Instead, we designed a bespoke curriculum tailored to the Care Inspectorate's specific workflows.
Curriculum Highlights:
- Cloud Transition: Explaining the "Anytime, Any Device" benefits of Office 365 vs. traditional desktop apps.
- Collaboration First: Deep dives into co-authoring in Word/Excel and using @mentions in Teams to reduce email clutter.
- File Management: Best practices for OneDrive vs. SharePoint (Syncing, Version History, and Sharing permissions).
Our delivery model was purely Instructor-Led Training (ILT), conducted on-site at various Care Inspectorate offices. This ensured that staff could ask questions in real-time, practice on their own devices, and receive immediate support from our expert trainers.
Empowered Staff & Seamless Adoption
The training programme was a resounding success. By focusing on "Best Practices" (e.g., when to use Teams vs. Outlook), we helped staff navigate the cultural shift of digital transformation, not just the technical one.
Feedback across all sites was excellent, with staff reporting significantly higher confidence in using the new digital ecosystem to collaborate on critical care reports and inspections.
"Course content was tailored to suit the exact needs of the Care Inspectorate... Course feedback was excellent across all sites."
